Art in the Stacks: Meet Julia Mallory

  • New Cumberland Public Library 1 Benjamin Plaza New Cumberland, PA, 17070 United States (map)

On Saturday, February 4th, our Julia Mallory will be on-site at the New Cumberland Public Library to talk about her art on display at Art in the Stacks, and meet other art appreciators and advocates. Join us and learn about what inspires Julia and what goes into her art.

Art in the Stacks is a monthly gallery series at the New Cumberland Public Library in partnership with the New Cumberland Collective. Each month will feature a new local artist exhibit in the library's gallery spaces.

Julia Mallory (she/they) is a storyteller working with a range of medium from text to textiles. Their current visual art practice includes collage work (figurative/photo-based, mixed media, and abstract watercolor). The abstract watercolor collages start with a series of small paintings that are then manually deconstructed and reassembled intuitively. This process is soothing to the nervous system and an exercise in letting go. Toward that end, the collages also function as a container for grief. The collages give shape to feelings or experiences that aren't always readily understood or legible to help make sense of the fragments that remain in the aftermath of devastation.

In addition, Julia's writing is featured on a variety of platforms and she is the author of six books, including two children’s picture books.
